When you look for "your part in things" as taught in recovery, you start to see you have choices which is the opposite of victim mentality.
I explore how looking for "your part in things" (as taught in step 4) shows us where we've been doing things that have contributed to the difficulties in our lives. This gives us options for how to do things differently. This brings us out of victim mentality because we now see we have choices. those with victim mentality blame others and the world for their difficulties because they truly believe they have no choices. Recovery teaches that we do have choices, always. I share three stories of how my reactions to situations has changed drastically to illustrate these concepts.
